Whether you’re looking for storytime with your little one, a hands-on STEM activity, or a relaxing book club discussion, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what’s coming up:

Smarty Pants Storytime

Thursdays, February 5 & 12 | 11:00 – 11:30 AM
Help your child get ready for school with books, songs, rhymes, and movement designed to build early learning skills.
Ages: 2–5 with parent or caregiver

Play and Explore

Friday, February 6 | 3:00 – 4:00 PM
An afternoon of play, curiosity, and creativity! Children will develop pre-literacy, social, and motor skills through hands-on activities while families enjoy quality bonding time.
Ages: 1–4 with parent or caregiver
No registration required. Space and materials are limited.
During the program, families can also speak with a Department of Public Health representative about child passenger and car seat safety.

Coding the Traffic Light for Teens

Tuesday, February 10 | 4:30 – 5:30 PM
Discover the history behind traffic lights while celebrating inventor Garrett Morgan. Teens will learn how to create their own traffic light in this interactive STEM program.
Ages: 13–17
Space is limited—arrive early to secure a spot.

Book Adventure: Garrett Morgan

Wednesday, February 11 | 3:30 – 4:30 PM
In celebration of African American and Black History Month, children will enjoy a read-aloud of Saving the Day: Garrett Morgan’s Life-Changing Invention of the Traffic Signal and create a working mini traffic signal to take home.
Ages: 5–12 with caregiver
Materials limited to 20 children.

 Adult Book Club: North Woods

Friday, February 20 | 10:30 – 11:30 AM
Join the La Mirada Library Book Club for a discussion of North Woods, a sweeping novel that explores generations of life connected by one mysterious forest.

Read to a Dog

Friday, February 20 | 3:30 – 4:30 PM
Kids can build confidence and practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a trained therapy dog and volunteer handler from the Pet Prescription Team.
Ages: 7–12 with caregiver
Attendance is limited. No registration required.
Parent permission is required.
