Metcalf at OC Fair

La Mirada’s favorite Elton John impersonator, Kenny Metcalf, will be appearing at The Hanger at the Orange County Fair, Wednesday July 30th at 8:15 p.m.

An accomplished musician and vocalist, Metcalf and his Early Years Band recreates the multiple Grammy-winning legend and flamboyant superstar in every performance. Dazzling outfits, stunning vocals, and a spectacular backing band complete this reproduction that brings the audience on an adventure of both sight and sound.

A La Mirada resident, Metcalf is one of many legendary musicians of local lore who were part of the 1960’s-80’s garage band era of La Mirada.

Tickets include same-day admission to the 2025 OC Fair.

Neighborhood Hero

Love La Mirada recently announced there latest “Neighborhood Hero” as they recognized Stephen James as the hero for the month of July.

For the past seven years, Stephen has faithfully served as a crossing guard in La Mirada—starting as a relief guard and eventually becoming the trusted face at Rosecrans and Stanton, helping the students of Eastwood Elementary get to and from school safely.

Stephen doesn’t just do his job—he brings joy to it.

Whether it’s greeting kids with a big smile or waving to neighbors driving by, he’s a bright spot in the day for so many. One community member shared: “He is such a great guy!” and “He always brings a smile to people’s faces.”

His corner isn’t just a crosswalk—it’s a place of warmth, safety, and connection. Kids affectionately call out, “Hi Mr. Stephen!” when they see him at local stores and restaurants. Neighbors regularly stop to say thanks, sometimes bringing coffee, donuts, or candy—small tokens for a man who makes a heartfelt impact.
