The City of La Mirada invites residents to celebrate the grand reopening of the newly renovated City Hall Fountain Plaza on Thursday, October 30, at 5 p.m. at 13700 La Mirada Boulevard. The revitalized plaza blends modern upgrades with the timeless charm that has greeted residents and visitors for over five decades.

The renovation project preserves the iconic waterfall facing La Mirada Boulevard while introducing sustainable and aesthetic enhancements. Key features include a new upper pool with a smaller fountain and a paved public gathering space overlooking the boulevard, a converted south pool transformed into a landscaped planter along Civic Center Drive, and energy-efficient LED lighting with dynamic geyser features in both pools. A new recirculating pump system reduces water usage compared to the original design, addressing environmental concerns.

Originally built in 1970 alongside City Hall, the fountain faced challenges in 2017 when it was shut off due to safety issues, water leaks, and outdated electrical systems. The renovation included demolishing deteriorated planter boxes, old fountain equipment, and portions of the concrete slab, as well as installing modern pumps, filtration, and lighting systems. A new glass barrier, enhanced irrigation, and updated landscaping ensure the plaza remains a vibrant community hub.

Join the celebration to enjoy light refreshments and experience the revitalized plaza. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at (562) 902-2385 or City Hall at (562) 943-0131.
