Community Mourns Passing of Former Mayor Ben Ashley
Former La Mirada City Councilman Ben Ashley has passed away, leaving a legacy of civic service to the city. Ashley, who served on the council from 1980 to 1988, was a two-time mayor, holding the city’s top post in 1982-83 and again in 1987-88.
During his time as mayor in 1983, Ashley oversaw the original renovation and conversion of Behringer Park into an athletics facility, a project that has benefited generations of La Mirada residents.
Behringer Park North was dedicated in 1998 featuring four additional softball fields and two overlay soccer fields.
His dedication to the community was continued by his family; his son, Todd Ashley, currently serves on the La Mirada Historical Advisory Council.
The La Mirada Blog extends its condolences to the Ashley family and recognizes the significant contributions Ben Ashley made to La Mirada during his years of public service.
