The La Mirada Library continues its strong lineup of educational and creative programming this March, with events designed for children, teens, and adults. From sewing and STEM activities to Women’s History Month celebrations and an exciting author visit, there’s something for every age group.

Here’s what’s happening this month:


Sewing for Adults: Book/eReader Sleeve

Friday, March 6 | 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of sewing in this hands-on workshop for adults. Using a sewing machine, participants will create a take-home book or eReader sleeve.

Space is very limited. Arrive early to secure your spot.


Play and Explore

Friday, March 6 | 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy an afternoon of play, curiosity, and creativity. Children will build pre-literacy, social, and motor skills through hands-on activities while families share meaningful bonding time.

Ages: 1–4 with parent or caregiver
No registration required. Space and materials are limited.

During the program, families will also have the opportunity to speak with a representative from the Department of Public Health regarding child passenger and car seat safety.


Women’s History Month Celebration

Wednesday, March 11 | 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Did you know that in 1889, two women traveled around the world in less than 80 days? Elizabeth Bisland and Nellie Bly accomplished this remarkable journey by land and sea. Celebrate Women’s History Month with a read-aloud of A Race Around the World: The True Story of Nellie Bly & Elizabeth Bisland. Children will also learn about other notable women in transportation and decorate their own boat, train, or car.

Smarty Pants Storytime

Thursdays, March 12, 19 & 26 | 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Get ready for school with books, songs, rhymes, and movement designed to build early learning and school readiness skills.

Ages: 2–5 with parent or caregiver

Origami Robots

Saturday, March 14 | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

It’s Teens Create Month! Celebrate by learning about electric circuits and the art of paper folding. Participants will design and decorate their own papercraft robot—complete with lights and motion.

Author Visit: Otto Normal’s Monsterton

Thursday, March 19 | 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Join a celebration of storytelling, creativity, and imagination. Author Danielle McKechnie will share how her story Otto Norman’s Monsterton: The Disappearance of White Pine Beach came to life. Illustrator Simón Estrada will lead an interactive doodle session, teaching kids how to bring Monsterton’s characters to life. Musical composer Evan Duffy will discuss developing the audiobook’s unique sound and invite children to identify the instruments and effects hidden in the music.

Read to a Dog

Friday, March 20 | 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Children can build confidence and practice reading skills by reading aloud to a trained therapy dog and volunteer handler from the Pet Prescription Team.

Parent permission is required.


Adult Book Club: The God of the Woods

Friday, March 27 | 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Set in August 1975, The God of the Woods follows the mysterious disappearance of thirteen-year-old Barbara Van Laar, daughter of the family that owns a summer camp. When another Van Laar child’s earlier disappearance resurfaces, a gripping drama unfolds.
