LA County Firefighters Recognized for Outstanding Service

During the May 27 City Council meeting, the City of La Mirada presented a Certificate of Appreciation and a commemorative photo to the Los Angeles County Fire Department in recognition of its outstanding service to the community.
Firefighting personnel stationed at La Mirada’s Fire Stations 49 and 194, as well as nearby Station 15, have provided critical fire suppression and paramedic services since the City’s incorporation. These dedicated professionals respond to emergencies, including structure fires, traffic collisions, and medical incidents, with professionalism and compassion.
In addition to their local efforts, firefighters assigned to La Mirada also contributed to major emergency responses during the past year, including assisting at the Palisades and Altadena wildfires. Their courage, skill, and unwavering commitment continue to inspire the community and reflect the highest standards of public service.
As a token of appreciation, the City presented a framed photograph of the original Fire Station 49, once located on De Alcala Drive, to Captain David Dombrowski. The commemorative gift celebrates the legacy and bravery of those who have served and continue to serve La Mirada.
The City of La Mirada is proud to recognize the Los Angeles County Fire Department for its enduring partnership and exceptional service in keeping the community safe.

Openings and Closings

The lumber industry is making a comeback in La Mirada with the recent completion of the new 84 Lumber facility at the former location of the Halloween Club on Firestone Boulevard.

84 Lumber is an industry leader in building supplies, manufactured components, and services for single- and multifamily residences and commercial buildings with over 320 facilities nationwide include stores, component manufacturing plants, custom door shops and engineered wood product centers in 34 states

Construction on the new 84 Lumber is complete at the location of the old Halloween Club on Firestone Boulevard; a July opening is expected.

Three culturally-famous lumber yards once dotted the La Mirada landscape: National Lumber on Valley View Avenue (now Paloma Townhomes), Sutherland Lumber on Artesia Boulevard (now Living Spaces) and Mars Lumber on the Santa Fe Springs border at Rosecrans and Marquardt Avenues (closed).

-Just outside the La Mirada city limits in Santa Fe Springs, a new Dave’s Hot Chicken and a Sonic Drive-In have opened adjacent to each other at 13351 Florence Avenue (just west of Carmenita Road).

The Sonic kind of reminds us of the old A & W Root Beer Stands of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Formally, for decades, the closest Sonic to La Mirada was the Anaheim location.

-Construction continues at the former market by Superior site at 12720 Valley View Avenue in the Mirada West shopping center. Northgate Market is expected to open a store at this location later this year.
