A New Philly Fusion Sandwich Shop Coming to La Mirada?

A new shop featuring Philly cheesesteak sandwiches with a twist may be coming to La Mirada’s oldest shopping center-the newly remodeled Roseview Center at Rosecrans Avenue and Valley View. The center was the site of La Mirada’s first city hall in the early fifties. For a sneak-peek visit phillyfusion.net.

New Sports Bar and Grill to Takeover Old Red Robin Spot

Sporting News Grill is coming to La Mirada and the restaurant is expected to open by the end of the year at the site of the former Red Robin restaurant located inside the Holiday Inn Hotel, Vicky Rumsey, Director of Sales and Marketing of the hotel told the La Mirada Blog.

General Manager of the La Mirada hotel, Richard Choi, told us the facility will be “gutted” and the new interior will resemble the other Sporting News Grills scattered around the country including stonework and polished wood.

The decor will also include large covers of St. Louis-based Sporting News, vintage photos from the publication’s archives, sports memorabilia and other sports-related items.

The concept was born in 2006 when the magazine partnered with the hotel chain and built over 90 restaurants at the Atlanta-based companies’ Holiday Inn Select locations.

ESPN has in recent years opened large sports-themed restaurant-bars, called ESPNZone including here locally in Anaheim. This is believed to be the first Sporting News Grill on the west coast.

Sporting News officials say the restaurants will be aimed at younger, action-oriented travelers as well as the local community.

“One thing (patrons) can’t get with ESPN is the phenomenal archival assets that Sporting News has to draw on,” Sporting News spokesman Drew Kerr said, noting that the magazine once known as the Bible of Baseball dates to 1886.

Choi told us initial drawings have been completed and construction hopefully will begin by the end of the summer.
