NEW! Food Truck Lineup Announced for La Mirada High

La Mirada~The Gourmet Food Truck Lineup at La Mirada High School has been announced for this week.

Participating at the school Thursday November 10th from 5:00-9:30 p.m. are: Grilled Cheese Truck, Crepes Bonaparte, Bakery Truck, Curb A Peel, & Chuck Wagon.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the athletics department and is held in the administration parking lot.

Norwalk~Incumbent Karen Morrison, Chris Pflanzer and Jesse Urquidi have captured the three setats up for grabs in the Norwalk-La Mirada School Board race, beating out the only other candidiate, Diane Gramajo.

Beatitudes Golf Has Good Showing at Tournament

La Mirada~The Beatitudes of Our Lord School Golf Team participated in the 2011 CYO Fall Golf Tournament at Rancho Duarte Golf Course on Sunday October 9th, taking 3rd place in the team competition while winning four top awards in individual competitions.

Matthew Carungay (Seventh Grade) placed 2nd in the Boys A Division, Miguel Vergel De Dios (Fourth Grade) placed 1st in the Boys C Division and Camille Dimayuga (Fourth Grade) placed 1st in the Girls C Division.

Additionally, Austin Alba-Brooks (Seventh Grade) placed 1st and birdied in the Closest to the Pin Contest. With nearly 100 students from 18 schools in Los Angeles County participating, the Bobcats took home the most awards of all the schools in the tournament.

"This is only the second year for the Beatitudes Golf Team" said Mary Forrest, Beatitudes Athletic Director. "Our coaches Percy Carungay, Bill Brooks and Dennis Mendoza have done an incredible job preparing our talented golf team for success."

The Beatitudes of Our Lord School sports program is part of the CYO Big Ten conference.

CRIME REPORT: Laptop and TV Stolen In LM

The following is the crime report for La Mirada October 24-30

Aggravated Assault

An assault was reported on the 13800 block of Bora Dr. The incident is still under investigation.

Residential Burglary

Two burglaries were reported last week. Two televisions were stolen from a residence on the 13100 block of El Moro Ave. A laptop computer was stolen from a dorm room on the 13300 block of La Mirada Blvd. An attempted residential burglary was reported on the 12800 block of Breezewood Dr.

Vehicle Burglary

Three vehicle burglaries were reported last week. A burglary occurred on the 15900 block of Bluefield Ave. Tools were stolen from a locked storage compartment on the vehicle. A burglary was reported on the 15000 block of Cheshire St. The door handle on the vehicle was broken in order to gain entry. A car stereo face plate was stolen from a vehicle on the 15200 block of Barnwall St.

Grand Theft Vehicle

An older model Honda was reported stolen from the 13000 block of Sunnybrook Lane. The vehicle was later recovered the same day a short distance away.

Veterans Observance in La Mirada

La Mirada~A special Veterans' Observance will be held Monday, November 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The program will honor the heroic men and women in the armed forces who have served the United States of America throughout our nation's history.

A patriotic presentation will pay tribute to the veterans and representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will post our nation's colors. Veterans will share their stories and display memorabilia with the community.

Take A Turnaround Trip with Ebell; Support LM Area Youth

La Mirada~La Mirada Ebell Club invites the community to enjoy a day at Pechanga Resort and Casino.

Participants will meet at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at the La Mirada Activity Center near City Hall, Then board the bus by 8:30 a.m., and return to that location by 6 p.m.. Several games will be featured during the 1 ½ -hour bus ride to the Casino. Fee is $20.00 per person.

This is the non-profit group's first major fundraiser for the 2011-2012 club year. Last year's efforts allowed Ebell to present four local students with $1,000.00 scholarships.

CRIME REPORT: Seven Vehicles Stolen in LM

The following is the crime report for La Mirada October 17-23, 2011:

Robbery

A robbery was reported near the intersection of Rosecrans Ave. and Valley View Ave. A small amount of cash and a MP3 player were stolen.

Aggravated Assault

An assault occurred near Adoree St. and Duffield Ave. The incident is still under investigation.

Residential Burglary

Two burglaries were reported last week. An incident was reported on the 11800 block of Goldendale Dr. A second burglary was reported on the 14100 block of Foster Rd. Cash and jewelry were stolen from both homes.
