Another Train Incident Plagues Infamous Crossing
A train apparently collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Rosecrans Avenue at Marquardt Avenue early this morning, although not officially confirmed.

Suspect in Fatal Stabbing of Elderly South Whittier Man Charged with Murder
Prosecutors filed murder and other charges Wednesday against a La Habra man accused of breaking into a South Whittier home and stabbing the elderly resident to death last week in a seemingly random attack.
Kaszey Noel Encarnacion, 25, was charged with one count of murder, two counts of burglary and one count of attempted mayhem in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials and booking records. (more)
Suspect Wanted for Stabbing Death in Unincorporated Whittier Arrested
The suspect wanted for the fatal stabbing and an additional attack in unincorporated Whittier this past Tuesday was arrested for burglary and murder this morning by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel.
84-year old Rolland Alexander was stabbed to death in his home in the 15300 block of Goodhue Avenue.
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators have been working around the clock since learning of the incident on Tuesday according to a written statement. (more)

Suspect Sought Following Fatal Stabbing and 2nd Attack on Another Elderly Man Nearby
Homicide detectives sought help and urged vigilance Wednesday as they continued seeking a man who they say stabbed an elderly man to death inside a South Whittier home on Tuesday afternoon, as well as assaulted another elderly man two blocks away.
The deadly assault took place about 3 p.m. in the 15300 block of Goodhue Street in South Whittier, while the other attack took place minutes before at a home in the 15500 block of Fernview Street in Whittier, authorities said during a press conference.
“We believe there is a public safety risk,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said. “This individual has committed at least two violent assaults on at least two elderly individuals.” (more)
Man Fatally Stabbed in South Whittier Home
A man died at the scene of a stabbing inside a South Whittier house on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Deputies first responded about 3 p.m. to a report of an “assault with a deadly weapon” in the 15300 block of Goodhue Street in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau. (more)

By that time the beautiful rolling hills studded with olive orchards of the vast McNally Rancho had been supplanted by new tract houses, schools, and a new shopping center for the energetic young families moving into Southern California.
Keenly deciding they wanted to determine their own future, the residents soon incorporated La Mirada and elected their first city council--Jack Clifford, Jerry Resnick, Estelle Troup, Jim Jenkins, and Dick Danson--to set their city's future. (more)

LETTER-TO-THE-EDITOR: Is La Mirada deteriorating before our eyes?
Dear Editor,
We share a love for our fair city.
However, equal time should be given to the fact that parts of the city are in a slow decline into a squalor that is comparable to older parts of LA County.
A walk down around my own neighborhood identifies homes, businesses, shopping yards, and/or parkways are unkept. Dead lawns, peeling paint, oil stained driveways, weeds, bus stops, inoperable vehicles - a general lack of care - are contributing to a general blight. (more)
