New Head Coach is Guiding Very Young Team

La Mirada~The La Mirada High School Boys basketball program has begun a new era, however, two early league losses have put a bit of a damper on things.

This past Friday La Mirada lost to Artesia 58-44, after falling to Mayfair two days earlier, 59-51, in the Suburban League opener.

In the Mayfair game, Roger Hamel tried his best to keep his team in the game by hitting six three-pointers and scoring 24 points overall for the Matadores (5-13, 1-8).

90's Rat Pack Down to On; Dames Not Running

La Mirada~The City Council retirement home just gained another resident recently.

Pete Dames joins Hal Malkin, both on the La Mirada City Council since 1994, in announcing they are not running for re-election in March 2011.

Well, wait a minute, actually Malkin made the announcement (multiple times) last year and was never a factor. Dames however, pulled papers last month and let the deadline come and go without returning them, apparently making his decision not to run, at the last minute.

An announcement by Dames was never made, letting the passage of time do it for him.

A Holiday Treat for the Whole Family

La Mirada~The Moscow Ballet is set to perform its Great Russian Nutcracker at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts on December 19, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY!

The world-renowned Moscow Ballet is celebrating its 18th annual tour of the Nutcracker tour by performing in over 50 cities across the U.S. and Canada, including here in La Mirada.

The show features spectacular sets and beautifully costumed Russian dancers, a holiday treat for the whole family, with whimsical and imaginative storytelling blended with the richness of Russian classical dance.

Choreographer Anatoli Emelianov has been praised by critics for his unique setting of Act II in the "Land of Peace and Harmony." To convey his message of peace, Emelianov incorporates an ethereal dove that escorts Masha and the Prince to a land where there is no war and suffering.

Set against Valentin Fedorov's spectacular scenic design, with dancing, larger-than-life puppets and hand-painted backdrops of unicorns, exotic birds and animals, Moscow Ballet's presentation is a visual delight.

This year's tour stars the world's premiere ballet couple, Cristina and Alexei Terentiev and the cast features luminaries of the Perm, Vaganova, Moscow State Academic Choreographic and Kiev schools.

Order your tickets today by calling The La Mirada Theatre for the Performog Arts at (562) 944-9801 or by visiting the theatre’s website www.lamiradatheatre.com.
