Nobody Injured in Crash
La Mirada~A car ended up on the sidewalk in a traffic mishap this afternoon in La Mirada.
The accident happened about 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Valley View and Adoree St.
Traffic was tied up as investigators wrapped up the scene.

Matadores Lose in Triple OT; Still Holding Last Spot
La Mirada~It was a game full of drama but somebody had to lose, as the Cerritos Dons beat La Mirada last night in 3 OT's, 77-75.
Earlier, Norwalk beat Artesia, 66-54, keeping the Pioneers one game behind the Matadores for the final spot.

La Mirada~How does an 11 year old African-American girl define beauty when she hates the color of her skin and has only blonde-hair, blue-eyed dolls to play with? Set against the backdrop of 1940s Ohio, The Bluest Eye explores the toll that a legacy of racism has taken on a community, a family, and Pecola Breedlove, the central character in this play adaptation based on the novel by Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author Toni Morrison. The production, directed by 2009 Lucille Lortel Award Nominee Janet Miller (Off-Broadway, Marvlelous Wonderettes) will be presented by Phantom Projects Theatre Group on February 25, 2010 at 10AM and 7PM at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Phantom Projects is a proud member of the LA Stage Alliance.
Mayfair Beats Artesia; Mats Hold Last Spot
Lakewood~Mayfair High beat Artesia tonight in a cross-town rivalry game, 83-71.
The loss by Artesia gives La Mirada sole possesion of the fourth and final Suburban League playoff spot with two games to go.
La Mirada will travel to Cerritos, this Tuesday, February 9th and then wrap up the regular season against Norwalk the following Friday, February 12th, at home.
Since its loss to La Mirada on January 22nd, Norwalk has won four in a row, including a one-point thriller over first place Mayfair.

La Mirada Beats Mayfair; Playoff Hopes Re-Energized
La Mirada~In front of its largest crowd of the season, the La Mirada boys basketball team had an incredible victory Wednesday night.
With its playoff lives on the line, the Mats were down 51-45 with a little under three minute left in the game.
The Matadores (13-13, 6-4), then reeled off the last 10 points of the game in beating arch rival and co-Suburban League champ, Mayfair 55-51, handing the Monsoons only their second loss of the year.
Conner Gillett scored 24, Michael Davis added nine and Josh Siemens had eight, including two key free-throws and a short jumper at the end, to ice the game for the Mats.

Lakewood~Whew! It's a good thing basketball games only have four quarters.
Despite being outscored 33-21 in the second half, and being ahead by as many as 16 points, the La Mirada boys basketball team barely hung on Monday night, beating Artesia 52-48- keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Conner Gillett iced the game with two important free-throws with 0.8 seconds left in the game-despite missing two seconds earlier.
At the start of the fourth quarter La Mirada led 40-29, but despite leading the entire game, the momentum seemed to be shifting to Artesia.
What an understatement.

Norwalk~Josh Siemens scored 20 points, Isaac Luatua had 13 and Michael Davis added 12 as the La Mirada boys basketball team routed the Eagles of John Glenn tonight 69-45 in a Suburban League contest
Information Offered to Seniors on Common Scams
La Mirada~Senior citizens are invited to attend an informational meeting on current scams affecting seniors. This meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 3 at 2 p.m. at the La Mirada Activity Center located at 13810 La Mirada Boulevard.
Presentations will be given by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Detectives and members of the La Mirada Public Safety Team.
