Nearby Los Coyotes Middle School was placed on lock down, and then eventually evacuated. About 400 students were bussed to the La Mirada Community Gymnasium. Nearby homes also were evacuated.

 

Multiple attempts at communicating with the suspect and tear gas being fired into the home had no affect on the suspect. The garage door was ripped off by a battering ram as well.

About 4:40 p.m. the Special Enforcement Bureau and SWAT team sent a robot into the residence to see if the man was still alive, because it was still to unsafe for officers to enter, according to Sgt. Greg Arnold from the Norwalk Sheriff's Station.

A short time later officers entered the home to find the man, who had been convicted of burglary in the past, deceased. He was found in the garage, and It is unclear at this time how long the man had been dead.

Homicide detectives are now on the scene and will continue to investigate into the night, with the name of the deceased man not being released at this time.
