They play a preseason schedule where every team made the playoffs and has a winning record. Their best shot of winning a game in the preseason is against Millikan who loses a lot from their team last year. Preseason Prediction: 0-4
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 vs. Huntington Beach Edison
9-10-2010 vs. Long Beach Millikan
9-24-2010 @ Gahr
10-8-2010 @ Westminster
Bellflower: The Buccaneers are playing a very favorable schedule, with only one of the teams that they're playing, having a winning record last year. They open against a horrendous Montebello team that only had three wins last year, and yet Bellflower was one of those three wins. The Buccaneers return quite a few electrifying players from last year's roster, and they should be able to create some fireworks in league. I think they will get off to a red hot start, and show that they can be a force to be reckoned with. Their toughest match up comes against Troy of Fullerton. Preseason Prediction: 3-1
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 @ Montebello
9-10-2010 vs. Los Altos
9-17-2010 vs. Paramount
9-24-2010 @ Troy
Cerritos: The Dons, who have gone a combined 2-28 in the last three years, need some kind of jump-start to come out of the gate with some momentum, so that they might be able to win a few more games in league. They play a couple of teams where I like their chances of winning. I think Cerritos wins their first two preseason games and the in their schedule this year, they swapped Del Rio league teams El Rancho for Pioneer. The Dons have put themselves in place to do very well to start off the year. Look for TB Aaron Francis and ATH Marquis Moss to get going early against these preseason teams. Their toughest game will come against District rival Gahr, who has three players committed to go Division I; they should rough-up the Dons. Preseason Prediction: 2-2
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 vs. Gabrielino
9-17-2010 @ Gahr
9-23-2010 @ Rancho Alamitos
10-1-2010 @ Pioneer
John Glenn: The Eagles have taken a page out of their past by scheduling some tough opponents this season. They only have one opponent with a losing record and the other three all made the playoffs. It seems as if Coach Niemann has his sights set on the playoffs, and has scheduled opponents to ready the team for that. Gone from the schedule are the lowly Aztecs of La Quinta, and Wildcats of Hacienda Heights Wilson. The Eagles in their place have added the Villa Park Spartans, and the Cypress Centurions who had their season ended by La Habra in the Semifinals last year. I think the Eagles are in for a tough fight early on and should do fairly well. The big concern is that they stay healthy. The Eagles have had troubles in recent years fielding large teams with depth. Preseason Prediction: 2-2
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 vs. Santa Ana Valley
9-9-2010 vs. Pioneer
9-17-2010 vs. Villa Park
9-24-2010 @ Cypress
La Mirada: The Matadores have not done much to change their schedule from last season, as they are playing the same teams as the previous season. The highly anticipated game will be when La Mirada plays La Habra. Over the course of the last year this has turned into a huge feud. The Mats will put their five Division I prospects on the field hoping to avenge a thumping last year at the hands of the Highlanders. The Mats have to replace some production from last year but they should have an easy go of it in the preseason. They have three games as I view as cupcake games, and then they play La Habra. For the other teams I hope you can figure out who you are. The Mats should continue their dominance, and come out and make an even better showing than last season. I'll say it here. Write down this headline from the day after the La Habra game: "La Mirada Beats La Habra 27-23." Preseason Prediction: 4-0
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 vs. St. Paul
9-9-2010 @ La Habra*
9-17-2010 vs. California
9-23-2010 @ La Serna
Mayfair: The Monsoons look to rebound from their worse season in almost two decades. Instead of scheduling soft opponents, they have gone out there and scheduled a tough preseason. They will play two Pac-5 teams and a team from Division II. They want to return to their glory days, and they need to get started off on the right foot. They play two games early on that can have a huge impact on their season. The annual battle for the Milk Bucket with Lakewood will be big, and so will their tilt with Los Alamitos. The monsoons have a great core coming back from last year's team. They should find themselves in the hunt for the league title. Preseason Prediction: 3-1
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 vs. Chino Hills
9-10-2010 vs. Los Alamitos (At Cerritos College)
9-17-2010 @ Lakewood
9-24-2010 @ Valley Christian
Norwalk: The Lancers have done what some-including this writer-consider foolish. They win 11 games last year, yet can't beat La Mirada in League, and then lose to Garden Grove in the Semifinals. To me, it means one thing, learn how to throw when teams shut down the running game! For their preseason, after playing a rather soft one last year, Norwalk went and scheduled two tough opponents this year. They open up with Pac-5 member Los Alamitos who comes from the highly competitive Sunset League. The Griffins of Los Alamitos, and Centurions of Cypress will do one thing the Lancers can't stop, and that's throw the ball. One game that is very interesting is St. Paul vs. Norwalk because the former Head Coach at Glenn is now at St. Paul and he has to be mad after not ever beating Norwalk while at Glenn. Preseason Prediction: 2-2
Preseason Schedule:
9-3-2010 @ Los Alamitos
9-10-2010 vs. Cypress
9-17-2010 @ St. Paul
9-24-2010 vs. Morningside
Next time: My next segment will be a Preseason All-Suburban League Team. Look for it at the end of the month, before we get into Summer Camp and the pads go on.
