Cor Van Dam was a La Mirada pioneer and was influential in its concept and development. He was a mainstay in the community serving on the Chamber of Commerce, the La Mirada Planning Commission and was a charter Rotary Club member.

He was also a pioneer in the dairy industry, serving as president of the Milk Producers Council of California and was a longtime member of the California Milk Advisory Board.

Before the development of the Behringer Park baseball fields, the southwest portion of his farm served as the home of La Mirada Little League for 15 years. He charged the city $1.00 a year for the use of the land.

The decision to have the home demolished “has been a very tough process” according to the spokesperson.

We will have more information as it becomes available.

We interviewed Cor Van Dam in May 2005, a few years before his death, on the La Mirada Blog Radio Show. He tells the story of how Valley View Farms came to be.
