The City promotes transparency and accountability by providing residents with information about City operations through a variety of avenues, including the City’s newsletter, website, electronic news, marquees, publications and press releases.

Recently, a national organization dedicated to government website transparency has awarded the City of La Mirada the 2013 Sunny Award, honoring the most transparent state and local government websites in the nation.

La Mirada earned top honors among this year's winners with a website transparency grade of "A+."

For the 2013 awards, editors of the non-profit Sunshine Review evaluated more than 1,000 state and local government websites and graded each according to a 10-point transparency checklist. The checklist determines whether information such as budgets, meetings, lobbying, financial audits, contracts, public records and taxes are easily available on government websites. Winners all received an "A" grade during the extensive grading process.

The City of La Mirada was among just 247 government entities across the nation to win the award.
