Sarega, 30, a retired Newport Beach police officer who was injured in the line of duty, will make his formal declaration in the coming week at an event with family and friends.

First elected to the La Mirada City Council in 2013, at the age of 25, Sarega was reelected to a second term in 2017.

Sarega serves on several county and state boards that deal with policy issues ranging from public safety to regional development. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Cal State

Fullerton and a Master’s of Public Administration from National University. He and his wife Susan have been married for four years.
