La Mirada Mayor Steve De Ruse spoke at the event as well, having attended the event for a total of ten years while he was on council each year and as a member of Rotary of La Mirada.

“The event went very well. VFW does an excellent job as does the cemetery with putting this together every year and bringing the community together,” Mayor De Ruse said. “It’s always an event we look forward to.”

Editor’s note: The La Mirada Blog is pleased to welcome Alondra Urizar to the writing staff.

Alondra is a native of Southern California. She is the youngest in her family and attends Biola University where she expects to graduate in fall 2017.

She is somewhat shy and tend to keep to keep to herself but does enjoy getting to know people. She can speak three languages: English, Spanish and French and enjoys playing soccer here and there. She enjoys fixing vehicles with her father and more often than not, her weekends are spent hands deep in an engine.

She shares her house with a dog and cat who get along splendidly and enjoys spending evenings either knitting or crocheting with them. A few other hobbies include camping, watching movies, enjoying food and taking naps.

Welcome Alondra!
