All-Star High School Football Game at Cerritos College
Norwalk~Three members from La Mirada's CIF Championship team will play in the annual 605 All-Star High School Football Classic this Saturday beginning at 6:05 PM at Cerritios College.
Representing the Matadores will be RJ Lujan, Ralph Gramajo, and Alejandro Magana.
La Mirada Boy Scouts to Have Fund-Raising Car Wash
Whittier~Get your automobile cleaned and support the Boy Scouts at the same time.
La Mirada's Boy Scout Troop 919 will hold its first ever car wash this Sunday, June 6th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at That's Amore Pizza, 11223 First Avenue in Whittier.
The Troop will be trying to raise funds for their Summer activities. Suggested donation is $5.00 per car.
“Dinner With Friends” Playing Through June 20th at LM Theatre
La Mirada~La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and McCoy Rigby Entertainment present the fifth and final production of La Mirada Theatre's 2009-2010 season, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Dinner with Friends, written by Donald Margulies and directed by La Mirada Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Brian Kite (Proof, Steel Magnolias).
Playwright Margulies has been quoted as calling his Pulitzer Prize-winning play Dinner With Friends, "a rueful comedy." The story is not just a thoughtful study on divorce, but a turbulent meditation on the minefield of middle age. Gabe and Karen, a happily married couple, have been friends with married couple Tom and Beth for many years. While having dinner at Gabe and Karen's home one night, Beth tearfully reveals that she is getting a divorce from Tom, who has been unfaithful. Over the course of the play, we witness the effects of Tom and Beth's breakup on Gabe and Karen, who first feel compelled to choose sides, and then begin to question the strength of their own seemingly tranquil marriage. The play exposes the same, universal insecurities that people face every time there are shattering changes in their lives. Margulies' characters are real. They are normal. They are family, friends, and the people next door.
Brian Kite (Director, right)) has directed across the United States and abroad. He is the Producing Artistic Director of La Mirada Theater where his credits include the critically acclaimed productions of Steel Magnolias starring Cathy Rigby, Driving Miss Daisy starring Michael Learned and David 
Auburn's Proof. He recently helmed a production of Cabaret in Bermuda under the patronage of the Queen's Governor and directed a production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie at The Actors Co-op in Hollywood. Before that he directed two Los Angeles revivals, J.B. by Archibald MacLeish, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, and the West Coast premiere of Václav Havel's The Beggar's Opera. He directed the Philadelphia production of Glenn Wein's Grandma Sylvia's Funeral and worked with Tony Award-winning director Daniel Sullivan on The Geffen Playhouse's production of Hedda Gabler starring Annette Bening. He directed over 20 
productions at French Woods Festival in New York where he was the Director of Theater Programs for over 7 years. Brian is currently a member of the directing faculty at U.C.L.A.'s School of Theater, Film and Television, serves on the Board of Governors of the Los Angeles Stage Alliance, and is the Artistic Director of the award-winning Buffalo Nights Theatre Company.
A Fine Campaign for a Group of Fine Young Men
La Mirada~The Matadore of La Mirada High's baseball team, bowed to Mira Costa last Friday in the CIF Div. II quarterfinals, 9-4, falling short of another CIF title, but a fantastic season none the less.
Thank you to the Matadore program for allowing me to be the Announcer for the home games this past season, I truly enjoyed it.

Memorial Day Service at Olive Lawn
La Mirada~Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9148 will host a Memorial Day Service at Olive Lawn Memorial Park in La Mirada. The service will include a Memorial Day address by the La Mirada VFW, patriotic songs, a special tribute to fallen soldiers, and placing of memorial flowers by community organizations, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Ladies' Auxiliary. Seating is limited so feel free to bring lawn chairs.

Rialto~The La Mirada High School baseball team beat Rialto today 2-1 , winning their thirteenth straight and 20 of their last 21; advancing to the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
The game was a quick-paced good old fashioned pitching duel, with a stiff breeze benefiting both hurlers; however Daniel Poncedeleon came out on top, dishing out a complete game 6-hitter.

Bestway Supermarket of Gardena is opening a new store at the former Vons location at 12721 Valley View Avenue at Imperial Highway. The scheduled opening is for this Wednesday, May 26th-with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. hosted by the La Mirada Chamber of Commerce.

LA MIRADA HOLDS ON FOR WIN; ADVANCE
La Mirada~The Matadores won their 12th straight and 19 of 20 by holding on for a 5-3 win over visiting Rancho Cucamonga in Friday's first-round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs.
La Mirada improved to 22-8 and will travel to face Rialto (17-10) at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in a second round game. The Knights knocked off highly-regarded Alemany, 2-0, for their eighth straight win.
Full game stories won't be posted until the playoffs are over.
Biola University Breaks Ground for New Talbot Building
La Mirada~Biola University broke ground for its new Talbot East Building this morning at 11:30 A.M. The ceremony was marked the "Miracle of May 2010" in commemoration of the miraculous influx of funds during a community-wide 40-day fast for the project's funding.
On March 16, Biola President Dr. Barry Corey asked students, faculty, and administration to commit to fasting one meal over the next forty days. Since that time, a total of more than $6.4 million has been amassed through generous donations. More than 80% of that number came in within the first five days of May, moving up the expected date for breaking ground on the project, originally scheduled for June 1. Money was slow in coming, according to Dr. Barry Corey, during the last year and half. As of last March, only around $9.2 million had been raised.
