Are you interested in purchasing an electric vehicle but new ones are just too expensive?
Well, as of January 1, 2023, you can now get a tax credit of up to $4,000 on the purchase of a used electric vehicle from a dealer. That’s right, only purchases from a car dealer qualify so don’t buy your neighbor’s old Tesla if you want the tax credit. (more)
Boy killed, man wounded in shooting outside La Habra Walmart
A boy died and a man suffered wounds when gunfire erupted in the parking lot of a Walmart in La Habra on Friday night, authorities said.
The deadly shooting took place about 8:35 p.m. in the parking lot at the southeast corner of Imperial Highway and Beach Boulevard, according to the La Habra Police Department. (more)
City adopts balanced budget
The La Mirada City Council recently adopted a balanced budget for the 2023-24 Fiscal Year. The approved budget supports the City of La Mirada’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life through public safety, family-friendly recreation and cultural programs, capital improvement projects, and a variety of programs and services.
General Fund revenues are projected at $50.27 million and expenditures are set at $46.4 million. A General Fund budget surplus is expected in the amount of $3.87 million. (more)
La Mirada Independence Celebration
Celebrate our nation with family, friends, and the community at La Mirada's Independence Celebration event held on Monday, July 3 at La Mirada Regional Park, located at 13701 Adelfa Drive.

Juvenile suspect held in connection with fatal stabbing of woman on Marlette Drive
La Mirada~A teenage boy was being held in connection with the deadly stabbing of a 49-year-old woman in her La Mirada home last week, officials said Thursday.
The suspect, whose identity was withheld due to his age, was detained shortly after the fatal stabbing of Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez on the morning of June 4, according to Lt. Daniel Vizcarra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. He declined to discuss the relationship between the suspect and victim. (more)

The La Mirada Theater for the Performing Arts is closing out its 2022-2023 season with “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
If, like me, the only version of the musical you’ve seen is the 1999 straight-to-video one with Donny Osmond and you thought it was a bit too cheesy and campy for your taste, cringe not! Yeah, it’s still a bit cheesy and a bit campy, but seeing a live version, especially THIS VERSION, somehow just works in a way I didn’t expect it would.
I’m not going to wait until the end, this time, to tell you that it’s a must-see show. (more)
Stabbing death on Marlette Drive
Coroner: La Mirada woman died from stab wounds; ruled a homicide
La Mirada~A woman found dead in her La Mirada home last week died as the result of a stabbing and her death has been ruled a homicide, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, 49, was pronounced dead on the morning of June 4 at a home in the 13300 block of Marlette Drive, according to Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s officials. (more)

Man goes missing from convalescent hospital in La Mirada
Deputies asked the public to keep an eye out for a man with medical issues who went missing from a convalescent hospital in La Mirada on Friday night.
Von Earlsal Cowan, 60, was last seen about 7:30 p.m. when he walked away from a facility in the 12200 block of La Mirada Boulevard, just north of Imperial Highway, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials said in a written statement. (more)
