There is one award cherished by all who receive it.  It goes to the Kiwanian who exemplifies the meaning of Kiwanis by extra effort in many directions.  It is called the Kiwanian of the Year award and its winner for this year was Chris Staples.  Chris gave generously of his time as he created and maintained the data base for the Duck Race.  He set up and maintains the Kiwanis District award winning La Mirada Kiwanis web site.  He took charge of the evening meetings.  He is always present at Kiwanis functions to help wherever needed.

New officers were installed, including Dr. Jerry Roodzant as President, Debbie Scheibel as Past President, Steve Forster as President Elect, Laura Williams as Vice-President-Evening-members, Amy Scheibel as Secretary, and Sherry Brakebill as Treasurer.  New board members installed were Ted Ceausu, Peter Chow, Ruffo Espinosa, Art Leslie, Rich Powers, Pat Ruiz, and Dave Taylor.

Mayor Susan Tripp and Councilman Hal Malkin were among those attending, as well as the new Superintendent of the Norwalk –La Mirada School District, Dr. Ruth Perez.  While much attention was focused on the installation of the new officers and board, outgoing President Debbie Scheibel took time to review the past year, its achievements and short comings.
