Classical Family Holiday Performance at La Mirada Theatre

THIS WEEKEND!

A Holiday Treat for the Whole Family

La Mirada~The Moscow Ballet is set to perform its Great Russian Nutcracker at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts on December 19, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY!

The world-renowned Moscow Ballet is celebrating its 18th annual tour of the Nutcracker tour by performing in over 50 cities across the U.S. and Canada, including here in La Mirada.

The show features spectacular sets and beautifully costumed Russian dancers, a holiday treat for the whole family, with whimsical and imaginative storytelling blended with the richness of Russian classical dance.

Choreographer Anatoli Emelianov has been praised by critics for his unique setting of Act II in the "Land of Peace and Harmony." To convey his message of peace, Emelianov incorporates an ethereal dove that escorts Masha and the Prince to a land where there is no war and suffering.

Set against Valentin Fedorov's spectacular scenic design, with dancing, larger-than-life puppets and hand-painted backdrops of unicorns, exotic birds and animals, Moscow Ballet's presentation is a visual delight.

This year's tour stars the world's premiere ballet couple, Cristina and Alexei Terentiev and the cast features luminaries of the Perm, Vaganova, Moscow State Academic Choreographic and Kiev schools.

Order your tickets today by calling The La Mirada Theatre for the Performog Arts at (562) 944-9801 or by visiting the theatre’s website www.lamiradatheatre.com.

Sarega, Mowles and Jones Turn in Papers; DeRuse, Brown Join In

La Mirada~Andrew Sarega and Planning Commissioner Larry Mowles turned in their papers to city hall yesterday-for the La Mirada City Council race-joining Councilman Steve Jones who turned in his last week.

There are three remaining potential candidates who have pulled papers but have not yet turned them in, Councilman Pete Dames, Community Services Commissioner, Steve DeRuse, and attorney Paul R. Brown.

Candidate's have until Wednesday to turn in papers.

DeRuse indicated to the Blog last week that he would be filing any day now.

There are three seats up for grabs in March, with the big question being: Will Pete Dames run or not?

Incumbents in La Mirada usually having an easy time winning elections. If Dames chooses to run again, it could set up a showdown between Commissioners Mowles and DeRuse for the remaining open seat vacated by a retiring Hal Malkin.

UPDATE: Steve DeRuse and Paul R. Brown both filed their nomination papers today and have qualified for the election, according to city clerk, Anne Haraksin.

So far, of the six potential candidates that have pulled papers, only Mayor Pete Dames has not returned his yet.
